You do not need to be overly familiar with the tech-noir/cyberpunk genre to participate on the board. Arcadia is just like your contemporary world - only slightly different. Society still suffers the same machinations as ever, citizens of the States are well-absorbed into the personal happenings of their lives, and the government is still the monstrosity big business, politics, and consumerism has manifested. The main difference is that all these contemporary webs are spun within a much more entertaining world-setting. Fast-forward to the future, post World War III, in an advanced scene of high-technology and low-lifestyle. It's a dark, tangled, morally ambiguous world of stylized living. Welcome to Arcadia Capital, the white lion state.
NATION OF ARCADIA
After nuclear warfare, humans survived the ruins of fallout and radiation by dwelling within monolithic pillars that were constructed to save human life. Each pillar is referred to as a state. States are entirely enclosed, to protect the citizens living within them. Being sealed, fresh air and natural lighting are only attainable in the highest sectors. Full information may be read within "Groups"
Resources that require fresh air and light cannot be procured within an Arcadian State. Plants, animals, minerals - riches we've taken for granted are now highly prized commodities. These assets must be obtained from bio-domes located out in specified grounds in the Barrens, outside Arcadian States. Demand, quantity, and shipping costs all factor into making these resources very expensive. Only the very wealthy can obtain "true" products. So artificial supplements are the way of the future. They are easily available and affordable by most. If it looks like steak, if it smells like steak, if it tastes like steak, then no one cares if it's not actually
steak. Most citizens only know a supplemental life.
Plant & animal life is for those that can afford the luxury. Zoos proudly host clones of creatures lost during the war for public display. Affluent individuals may afford the steep price of owning & maintaining organic creatures & plant life. Regency district hosts the only sectors where flora can naturally thrive. Borough & Sub-Tract can only maintain indoor or low-level lighting equivalents.
It's the future, and as such, everything in life is digital. Currency, wages, mail, books, news, coupons, tickets - everything is managed online. There are not enough resources, and it cannot be afforded, to use paper or other material products. Everything is instant, everything is networked, everything is synced. Your wages are instantly credited to your online banking. Purchases are made simply by transferring required credit prices to a retailer via any personal device. This makes owning, and having on hand, a personal device as necessary as carrying a wallet and identification had always been.
Finer features of a digital age also promotes great advances in technology. Robotic pioneering is at its pinnacle. Everything from prosthetic engineering, down to the art of constructing robopets, can be coded and created. While technology can allow for exciting and worthwhile replacements, some features also tend to fall short of adding up to the dynamics of real, living creatures. Prosthesis, however, is a subject some argue can improve human life.
It's the same as ever, plus a few new features. Where in a pre-WWIII country, citizens were left to fend for themselves when it came to providing standards of living - Arcadian States now handle all the details of personal management. Based upon individual &/or household annual credit earnings, White Tower Government chooses and assigns everything from district level of residency, healthcare & insurance coverage, legal counseling, procreation licensing (2 limit per family), to social security.
Racial issues are still ever-prevalent, only now they are manifested upon discrimination and prejudice between humans, cyborgs, and androids. Individuals may be treated differently depending on what they're made of below the skin, as now "it's what's inside that counts." What a person is constructed of may often determine whether they are regarded as a "basic," a "rental," or "property."
To maintain the advances of a tech-world, space exploration is now an extremely costly feature reserved only for orbital launches to provide repair & maintenance on satellites.
